Social Networks - The Latest Form Of Socializing Print E-mail
With the advancement of technology, the internet has become a part of our daily lives. And with many people turning to the online world for their entertainment, social networks has gained so much popularity as the newest trend of human interaction.

Social networking sites has been around for the last couple of years. But it has only been recently when most people's online activity consist largely of logging into their own social networking account. The usual internet user would spend considerable amount of his time updating the status of his life, chatting up with friends and sharing information within a social site platform.

Of all the social sites, Facebook seemed to be with the most users. It was launched in February of 2004. It's purpose used to be as a site for the sole use of Harvard students. It later expanded to accommodate other universities until it became the social giant that it is now. Facebook has become the social network of choice for many users because of its user friendly interface. However, it became center of controversies lately because of its privacy policy.

Another widely used social site is MySpace. This site is regarded as the closest rival of Facebook. It was launched on August 2003 - way before Facebook came into existence. Through the years it became a breeding ground from hopeful artists. In fact, many artists became famous and managed to create a fanbase due to the wide reach of MySpace. However, it suffered a huge decline of users because of the popularity of Facebook.

Friendster is probably the oldest social site around. It was launched on March 2002 and was one of the main precursors to the emergence of many social networking websites. Although it hasn't gained much traction in the west, it continues to have large number of users in the many parts of Asia such as Philippine, Malaysia, South Korea, and Japan.

There are several other social networking websites available. Some of these cater to specific types of people with common interest. For example, LinkedIn is a site where you can further your business or career contacts by connecting to prospective employers or other professional. Flickr is also a website that supports uploaded picture for those who are into photography.

No matter what your interest is or what you you are looking for these days, it seems that the internet has enough share of social networks to accommodate everyone. The onus is really on us, the users, to select which service fits our preference and needs.
